Wyoming athletes qualify for 2015 Simplot Games finals

Wyoming athletes qualify for 2015 Simplot Games finals
 
Pocatello, Idaho – Casper’s Hunter Davila led Wyoming athletes with a strong performance in the boys’ 1600 meters at the 37th annual Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. Davila had the fastest qualifying time of 4:23.82, topping a strong 1600 meters field that includes six other Wyoming athletes in the finals.
 
Top athletes who qualified for finals include:

  • Sydney Wendt, a junior from Gillette, had the third fastest time in the girls’ 1600 meters with the time 5:09.
  • Walker Newell, a senior from Gillette, qualified to compete in the boys’ pole vault, and 60-meter hurdles finals tomorrow.
  • Five Wyoming girls took top qualifying spots in the girls’ 800 meters including Ella DeWolf of Laramie, and Alyse Henry of Rock Springs.

 
All events on Saturday are finals, with championship heats beginning at 12:15 p.m. at Holt Arena. A full list of Wyoming athletes who qualified is listed below.
 
More than 2,000 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia to participate in the 37th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
