Utah Athletes to Compete in 2016 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – The 38th annual Simplot Games will feature approximately 2,000 athletes from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico and Australia. Utah will once again offer a strong field of athletes for the competition, which will be held Feb. 18-20 at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena.
McKay Johns, a junior from American Fork, Utah, was the 2015 Utah State Track Championships Runner-up in the 800, 1600, and 3200m runs. He will be competing in the 1600 meters at this years Simplot Games.
Skylar Andam, a senior from West Jordan, Utah, is a 2015 state champion long jumper and the MVP of the 400 meter run at the 5A level. He will be competing in the 60 meter dash and in the long jump.
Kody Codner, a senior from Orem, Utah is a region and state champion in the 300 meter hurdles, 4×100 and the 4×400. He was also the regional champion and placed second in state in the 110 meter hurdles. Codner holds the state record in the 4×100. He will be competing in the 60 meter hurdles this year.
Elsja Mecham, a senior from Highland, Utah, is an eight time Idaho state champion. She is a record holder at the 4A level in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and a two time Utah 2A state champion and record holder for the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. She competed in the 2015 USATF Jr. Nations and was a fourth place finisher in the 400 meter hurdles. Mecham has committed to Brigham Young University and will compete in the 400 meter dash.
More than 2,000 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia to participate in the 38th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
