Utah Athletes to Compete at 2015 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – The 37th annual Simplot Games will be held February 19–21, 2015, at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena. More than 2,000 high school athletes from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Australia will compete in track and field events over the three-day competition. With four countries represented, Simplot Games have truly become an international experience. Utah will offer a strong field of athletes including:

  • Chad Artist, a senior from North Logan, Utah, was the 2014 Utah State Champion in the 100 meters, and 200 meters. He also holds the stadium and meet record in the 100 meters for the Davis Invitational. Artist was the 5th place finisher in the 60-meter dash at last years’ Simplot Games.

 

  • Lucy Biles, a senior from Herriman, Utah, is a two-time Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, and has won multiple state championships. She will be competing in the 1600 meters.

 

  • Emily Ellis, a freshman from Highland, Utah, was the USATF Junior National Champion in the 400 meters in 2013. She will compete in the 400 meters and the long jump at Simplot Games 2015.

 

  • Amarissa Hawker, a senior from Herriman, Utah, was the 2014 Utah State Champion in the shot put. Hawker competed in Simplot Games last year and placed 7th in the shot put, the same event in which she will compete this year.

 

  • Andre James, a senior from South Jordan, Utah, is a three-year Utah State Champion in the shot put. He will compete in the shot put at this year’s Games.

 

  • Alyssa Snyder, a senior from Coalville, Utah, was a 2013-2014 Nike Cross Nationals qualifier in the 3200 meters. At the 2014 Simplot Games, Snyder competed in the finals of the 1600 meters. This year she will compete in the 3200 meters.

 

  • Chandler Swaney, a senior from Washington, Utah, was the 2014 Utah State Champion in the high jump and the long jump. He currently holds four school records in the high jump, long jump, 100 meters, and 200 meters. At Simplot Games 2015 he will compete in the high jump.

 
In addition to competing, the Simplot Games athletes will also have the opportunity to meet several Olympians. Returning to the Games this year are Olympians Dick Fosbury, Stacy Dragila, Andre Philips, and Willie Banks. They will be joined by Mike Powell, the current long jump world record holder.
More than 2,000 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia to participate in the 37th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
