Pocatello, Idaho – Tara Davis, a sophomore from Simi Valley, Calif., won the girls long jump in her first year at Simplot Games with a 19’10” jump. Her wining jump earns her the number one ranking in the country for this year.
“It was so great,” said Davis. “The crowd was energetic and really put me in a hoppy mood.”
Earlier this week Davis won the California State Indoor Championship with a jump of 19’4”. Every jump today at Simplot Games was further than that meet-winning jump.
“This is the best meet I have ever been to and I will definitely be back,” she said after receiving her medal.
More than 2,000 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia to participate in the 37th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
