Stellar After Dark Party Friday Night at Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – Every year Simplot Games puts on the After Dark party on Friday evening. The event is a time for athletes, coaches, and parents to meet new people as well as enjoy some leisure time eating dinner, attending seminars, and participating in various other activities.
The After Dark Party began with an Idaho Potato bar that people could take to different guest speakers, including Andre Phillips who ran from one side of the room to the other as he had the audience chant, “Perseverance! Never give up!” He led with this to begin his speech about his experience of becoming an Olympic athlete. Phillips gave insight into the journey and trials he went through before his moment of glory. He spoke about the new strategy he came up with just before the Olympic final: “If you want me, come and get me.” Phillips encouraged the young athletes to never give up and concluded by answering some questions.
Coach Trent Sanderson, creator of Team Prep USA, also was speaking at the event. The topic of his seminar was “Stay the Course.” He spoke about what they do for Team Prep USA and what they expect from their athletes. Sanderson gave tips to athletes such as how to manage time, healthy ways to eat, and creating a pattern of short-term goals. He gave examples about how the team prep USA specialize training with all different athletes and pushes them to succeed and gives them the tools to do so.
The After Dark party concluded with blow-up obstacle courses, zorb balls, a live DJ, and dancing for all of the Simplot Games athletes. With one last day of Simplot Games the finals will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in Holt Arena.
More than 2,200 athletes came from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
