Pocatello, Idaho – Sondre Guttormsen, a senior from Ski, Norway, competing out of Davis Calif., not only took first, but broke the 32-year-old meet record with his 17’08.5” vault.
“It’s always great to get a meet record, especially when it’s been standing for so long,” Guttormsen said.
After reaching his winning mark, Guttormsen decided to try for 18’02.5”, a Norwegian junior record.
“I was very happy about the competition overall,” Guttormsen said. “Even though I didn’t clear 18’02.5”, I’ve still got plenty of time.”
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
