Montana and Wyoming Standout Athletes attending 2017 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – The 2017 Simplot Games offers high school athletes the opportunity to compete against world-class international competition and meet Olympians. This year, standout athletes from Montana and Wyoming have their sights set on gold.
Keep an eye out for these star athletes:
Ellee Becker, a junior from Missoula, Mont., was the Montana 2A All State Cross Country runner in 2015 in the 3200 meters. This year, Becker hopes to shine in that same event at Simplot Games.
Elise Stearns, a sophomore from Missoula, Mont., was the Montana 2A All State Cross Country runner in 2016 in the 1600 meters race. Stearns will be running for a title this year at just fifteen years old.
Molly Olsen, a senior from Casper, Wyo., was the Wyoming 4A State Champion in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meter races. Olsen is looking to keep her winning streak alive at the 2017 Simplot Games in the 3200 meters race and the 4×400 meter relay.
Dawson Cooley, a senior from Cheyenne, Wyo., was the 2016 Wyoming State Champion in the110-meter hurdles. This year, Cooley will compete in the 60-meter hurdles and 4×400-meter relay.
Logan Harris, a senior from Cheyenne, Wyo., was the 2016 Wyoming State Champion in shot put, and has a personal record of 57’11” already this season. Harris hopes to make a final mark on Simplot Games in shot put.
Charlene Brown, a senior from Riverton, Wyo., was the 2013 and 2015 2A Wyoming State Champion in the 1600 meters race. At Simplot Games this year, Brown will compete in the 1600 meters as well as the medley races.
Garrison Hughes, a junior from Sidney, Mont., was the 2016 Montana State Champion in pole vault. Hughes did not place at last year’s Games, but looks to shine as a junior.
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
