Don’t miss this year’s 38th Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – The 38th annual Simplot Games will be held February 18-20, 2016, at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena. Over 2,000 athletes from 20 different states, along with four countries including Canada, Mexico, and Australia, will compete in track and field events during the three-day competition. The annual J.R. Simplot Company-sponsored event has become one of the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field events since it was first held in 1979.
As in years past, competitors will have the opportunity to socialize with Olympic legends including Dick Fosbury, Andre Phillips, Stacy Dragila, and the Games’ first Australian Olympian, Steve Hooker.
In addition to the track and field events, a number of other activities are planned for the weekend. Breakfast with Fosbury and Friends will be held on Friday, February 19, at 7:30 a.m., at the Red Lion Hotel in Pocatello. Aussie pole vault sensation and Olympic gold medalist Steve Hooker will be the featured speaker. Hooker was a star at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where he became the first Australian field athlete to win Olympic gold in 60 years, the first Australian male track or field gold medalist since 1968, and the first Australian athletics Olympic champion since Cathy Freeman in 2000.
Hooker will also be the featured athlete at In the Spotlight, one of three activities at the After Dark Party on Friday, February 19, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The party will be held at the Pond Student Union Building at Idaho State University and will start with a potato bar dinner. Following the dinner, attendees will have a choice of three activities from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.: In the Spotlight with Steve Hooker, Track Academy with Dr. Warren Willey, D.O., and Deal or No Deal. The event will conclude with a dance party in the ballroom. The party includes a live DJ Dance Party with bounce houses, obstacle courses, and more. Athletes, coaches, and parents are invited to attend this event. Tickets for the After Dark Party can be purchased in advance at www.simplotgames.
