“It feels so good to set a record and know I did my best,” said Linebarger. “Beating the meet record twice like that just feels so good.”

Linebarger charged down the runway and was able to clear 13’1½” on her third attempt, setting a Simplot Games record. At that point, Linebarger had also set a new personal best.

The bar raised again and Linebarger was faced with a new mark of 13’5”. She was able to clear the bar and set another new Simplot Games record just minutes later.

“Last year, I was nervous to compete at Simplot Games because of an injury,” said Linebarger. “This year, I used those nerves to drive me to my best.”

Linebarger is now ranked fifth in the country in girls’ pole vault. She is still considering college offers and has not committed to any schools yet, but does plan to compete in pole vault in college.

More than 2,200 athletes came from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
