Jakoby Ford, a senior from Spokane, Wash., Wins Both Boys Long Jump and High Jump at Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – Jakoby Ford, a senior from Spokane, Wash., takes home first in both the boys’ long jump and high jump at the 2017 Simplot Games.
In the first round of the long jump, Ford took flight and landed, covering a distance of 23’5” which would have been enough to put him ahead of the pack. However, Ford was not finished and in the final round he jumped 23’8”.
“I was trying to get above 24’ to beat the meet record,” Ford said.
Later in the day, Ford cleared 6’9” in the boys’ high jump earning another trip to the top of the podium.
“It was a good to win both, but I expected more from myself in my jumps,” Ford said, “I want more.”
Ford is committed to compete for Texas Tech University after graduation. This was his first year at the Simplot Games.
“I’m not used to big meets like this, but it was a cool experience,” he said.
