Idaho Athletes to Look for at 2018 Simplot Games

 

 

Pocatello, Idaho – The dazzling lights and high energy competition of the 40th annual Simplot Games are just around the corner, and many Idaho athletes are preparing to return and compete for medals and records.

 

This year, over 2,200 athletes will come to compete in Idaho State University’s Holt Arena February 15-17. Make sure to look for these Idaho athletes among the competitors:

 

  • Taylen Langin, a senior from Meridian, placed second in the girls’ pole vault at 2017 Simplot Games. This year, Langin placed first at the Team Idaho All-Comers track meet and second at Nike Boise Indoor. Last year, she placed first at the Golden West Invitational, USATF Snake River Association Junior Olympic Championships, USATF Region 11 Junior Olympic Championships, and Team Idaho Classic. She will return to Simplot Games this year and compete in the girls’ pole vault.

 

  • Jacob Englar, a senior from Nampa, will return to compete in the boys’ pole vault after placing fifth in the same event at 2017 Simplot Games. Englar is the 2A District III Champion and IHSAA 2A State Champion. He also placed first at the Nampa City Championship, USATF Snake River Association Junior Olympic Championships, USATF Region 11 Junior Olympic Championships, Team Idaho Classic, and New Balance Boise Indoor.

 

  • Josh Mertz, a senior from Boise, competed in the boys’ weight throw and shot put at 2017 Simplot Games, placing third in the weight throw. In 2017, he placed second at the 4A District III Championships and the IHSAA 4A State Championships in the shot put. He will return to Simplot Games this year to compete in the boys’ shot put.

 

  • Mark Sullivan, a senior from Caldwell, will return this year to compete in the boys’ pole vault after placing fourth in the same event last year. Sullivan competed in the Team Idaho All-Comers track meet and Nike Boise Indoor, placing fourth and third respectively this year. He also placed second at the New Balance Boise Indoor meet last year.

 

  • Paige Dallmann, a senior from Meridian, placed fourth in the girls’ pole vault at last year’s Simplot Games. Last year, she was the 5A District Champion in the pole vault, and placed third at the IHSAA 5A State Championships.

 

 

More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
