Idaho Athletes Look to Wow Their Home State at Simplot Games 2017

 
Pocatello, Idaho– The annual Simplot Games is a place where young athletes can compete in one of the nation’s premier high school track and field meets. Each year thousands of people from around the globe, including a number of Olympian guests, flock to Holt Arena to watch the athletes compete. This weekend Idaho athletes look to represent their home state and make their way to the podium.
 
Here is a list of Idaho athletes not to miss at the 2017 Simplot Games:

  • Rachel Morrin, a junior from Rexburg, had an undefeated 2015-2016 season, won the 5A girls cross-country individual state title and was named the 2015-16 Gatorade Idaho Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year. She will be competing in the Girls 3200 meters atm @ 6:05 p.m. on Feb. 16.
  • Paytin Drollinger, a senior from Shelley, is no newcomer to winning. In 2014 she won the state 3A 1600 meter title, was the 1600 and 3200 meter champion in 2015 and the 3A Cross Country State Champion in 2016. She will be competing in the 1600 meters at 8:55 p.m. on Feb. 16, and the 4×400-meter relay at 10:35 a.m. on Feb. 17.
  • Ty Wright, a sophomore from Shelley, placed first in the high jump at the 3A State Championships during his freshman year. He will be competing in the high jump at 9 a.m. on Feb. 17.
  • Braxton Staples, a junior from Pocatello, placed first at the 2016 Idaho 4A State Championships in the long jump. He will be competing in Saturday’s finals at 8:30 a.m.

 
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
