Idaho Athletes Look to Impress at 2015 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – While the Simplot Games expands its reach across the world, the state of Idaho continues to boast incredible local talent. Idaho has a rich history of athletes finding their way on to the podium at Simplot Games and 2015 could prove to be no different. The 37th annual Simplot Games will be held February 19–21, 2015, at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena. Here are some Idaho athletes who are looking to make a powerful impression at the upcoming Simplot Games:

  • Elijah Armstrong, senior, Pocatello, has dominated the Idaho cross-country scene, as he has won 4 consecutive 4A individual state championships. He has also been named the Gatorade Idaho Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year for both the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. He looks to improve his second place finish in the 3200 meters from last year’s Simplot Games.

  • Drew Lindsey, senior, Grangeville, was a Silver Medalist at the Youth National Championships in Indiana last summer. He is also the 2014 Idaho State Discuss Champion and will be competing in shot put and weight throw at Simplot Games.

  • Bryce Kirby, senior, Boise, is the 2014 Idaho State 200-meters champion and will be competing in the 60 meters this year.

  • Emma Bellan, senior, Boise, placed third in the pole vault at the 2014 Idaho State 5A Track & Field Championships.

  • Jackson Thompson, senior, Firth, was the 2014 Idaho High School 400 meters State Champion. He also placed third in the 100 meters and 200 meters State Track Championships and will be competing in the 60 meters at this year’s Games.

  • Harlie Sorell, senior, Parma, is the 2014 Idaho State 3A Girls 3200 meter champion. She will be competing in the 3200 meter at this year’s games.

  • Mikayla Malasping, senior, Caldwell, has had a lot of success running the 3200 meter throughout her high school career and will be running for Northern Arizona University beginning in the fall. While she placed fourth in the Idaho 5A State Track meet last year, she’s placed in the top five in all four years of her high school career, and could be a contender for the 2015 Simplot Games.

More than 2,000 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia to participate in the 37th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
