Denver Lightning Track Wins the Girls’ 4×200 Relay at the 2018 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – The Denver Lightning Track Team A won the girls’ 4×200 relay at the 2018 Simplot Games with a time of 1:41.46.
The team was made up of senior Syanne Algee, junior Arria Minor, sophomore Kiona Gibbs, and junior Esther Diza-Mbelolo. They said the win was unexpected, especially since they competed in the first heat of the finals. After the second heat, usually the faster heat of the competition, the Denver team said they looked at the times and said to each other, “we might have got it.”
“It’s the first time we’ve run together,” said Minor. “And we pulled it together.”
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
