Pocatello, Idaho – Dawson LaRance, a senior from Billings, Mont., won the boys’ 800 meters at the 2017 Simplot Games with a time of 1:54.60. LaRance barely beat out Heston Andersen, a senior from Spanish Fork, Utah, who had a time of 1:54.81. Jacob Grinwis, a senior from Bozeman, Mont., came in third with a time of 1:55.86.

“The 800 is always a hard race,” said LaRance. “But it’s kind of my sweet spot right now.”

This is LaRance’s third time at Simplot Games but first time running the 800 meters. He plans to run track next year at the University of Minnesota.

More than 2,200 athletes came from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games.
