Chinne Okoronkwo of Lynnwood, Wash., Repeats as Simplot Games Triple Jump Champ
Pocatello, Idaho – Chinne Okoronkwo, of Lynnwood, Wash., made a hop, skip, and a jump to win the 2016 Simplot Games triple jump with a leap of 41’ 7.75”. This is Okoronkwo’s fourth year at the Games. Her first year as sophomore she placed second, and last year she also received first place.
“I love the Simplot Games. It’s fun and there is lots of energy,” Okoronkwo said. “My jump was good, but I was hoping to make it further.”
Okoronkwo scratched her first two jumps, but nailed the third and took the win. Her future plans are to attend the University of Wisconsin. Okoronkwo also competed in long jump and pole vault.
More than 2,100 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 38th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
