Pocatello, Idaho – Casey Clinger, a senior from American Fork, Utah, took first and broke the meet record in the boys’ 3200 meters with a time of 8:54.97 at the 2017 Simplot Games.

“I knew I was up against some phenomenal runners, so I stayed scared and ran scared knowing someone could pass me the whole time,” Clinger said.

Clinger competed at Simplot Games last year, also breaking the meet record, but was beat out for first place by Garek Bielaczyc. This year, Clinger said his motivation going into the race was simply to improve off his performance last year. Clinger’s time converts to 8:43 at sea level.

This was Clinger’s fourth and final year at Simplot Games.

More than 2,200 athletes came from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
