In second and third place came Celeste Mucci and Freya Langston (both sophomores), who are members of the Maribyrnong Track Club of Australia. Coming into today Duerden said she felt good: “A little nervous, but I try to keep myself pumped.” Duerden feels she was able to do so well today because of the high level of competition at Simplot Games. “I do better when I have someone I’m competing against.” Duerden will graduate this year but is currently undecided about where she’ll attend school in the fall. More than 2,000 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia to participate in the 37th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
