Emmons competed at the 2015 Simplot Games, but did not make it to finals. After not placing, he decided to attend Stacy Dragila’s pole vault camp and was ready to continue training, but broke his pelvis in half after missing the pole vault pad during practice.

“It feels really good to come out of here with a win,” said Emmons. “I knew what I had to do the whole time.”

Brenton will compete at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in the fall.

More than 2,100 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada and Australia to participate in the 38th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
