Wyoming Athletes Finish Strong at 2017 Simplot Games


Pocatello, Idaho – Athletes from the state of Wyoming fought strong at the 2017 Simplot Games. Although every athlete gave their all, there were some performances that stood out.


  • The Star Valley Track Club ‘A’ from Afton, claimed the top spot in the boys’ 4×800-meter relay with the time of 8:00.82. Their time was four seconds faster than Davis Track Club ‘A’ from Kaysville, Utah. Broncs Track Club ’A’ from Sheridan, placed sixth in the boys’ 4×800-meter relay.
  • Three Wyoming teams medaled in the boys’ 4×200-meter relay. Cheyenne East ‘A’, from Cheyenne, placed second with the time 1:32.19, Kelly Walsh High School ‘C’ finished third with the time 1:32.35, and Broncs Track Club ‘A’ finished fifth with the time 1:34.09.
  • William Nolan, a senior from Cheyenne, and Leila Martinez, a junior from Evanston, both placed in the top six in the triple jump. Nolan finished second with a mark of 47’1”. Martinez finished third with a mark of 38’11 ¾”.

More than 2,200 athletes came from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
