Utah Athletes Qualify to Simplot Games Finals

 
Pocatello, Idaho—By the end of the second day of the 2018 Simplot Games, Utah athletes solidified their reputation as being fierce competitors. Many of those athletes will have the opportunity to compete in finals tomorrow.
 
Athletes to watch in finals:
 

  • Ryan Raff, a senior from Lehi, took the first spot in qualifiers for the boys’ 3200-meter run. He will look to take first during finals at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Sadie Sargent, a senior from Coalville, took the second qualifying position in the girls’ 1600-meter run. She will compete in finals on Saturday at 1:55 p.m.
  • Bronson Winter, a senior from Farr West, locked the first qualifying spot in the boys’ 1600-meter run finals. Winter will look to hold his first place position in the finals on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
  • Dallin Draper, a senor from Orem, secured the first qualifying position in boys’ 200-meter dash. He will look to keep his top position in the finals on Saturday at 1:47 p.m.
  • Jace Jensen, a junior from Bountiful, and Dominic Bentil, a senior from Highland, took the first and second qualifying positions in the boys’ 400-meter dash, respectively. Both athletes will compete in the final race at 2:21 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Brandon Williams, a senior from Orem, locked the first qualifying position in the boys’ 800-meter run. Williams will look to place first during finals on Saturday at 2:37 p.m.
  • Dallin Draper, a senior from Orem, and Braiden Ivie, a sophomore from Orem, took the first and third qualifying spots in boys’ 60-meter dash, respectively. Both will compete in finals on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
  • Madison Moffit, a senior from Orem, secured the third qualifying spot in the girls’ 800-meter run. She will compete in the final race on Saturday at 2:28 p.m.

More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
