Trey Knight of Vancouver, Wash., Sets Weight Throw Meet Record at 2019 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – Trey Knight, a junior from Vancouver, Wash. won the boys’ weight throw at the 2019 Simplot Games and set a Simplot Games meet record with a mark of 86’7.5.”
This is the second year that Knight has competed at Simplot Games, and while he plans to attend next year, he’s soaking up his victory.
“It feels pretty good to finally be here,” Knight said. “I’ve wanted to break the record for a while, and to break it at Simplot Games and PR at the same time is awesome.”
Knight broke a 15-year-old record that was set by Leif Arrhenius in 2004 with a mark of 82’7.25”.
Knight is now the No. 2 performer in high school history and holds the No. 8 high school all-time throw.
Though only a junior, Knight is looking into different colleges around the nation.
“I just want to go somewhere that can take me as far as possible in my athletic career,” Knight said.
Senior Kyle Brown from Marietta, Georgia, took second place with a mark of 68’7. Senior Cian Quiroga from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, took third place with a mark of 66’7.
More than 2,200 athletes come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 41st t annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
