TOP WEIGHT THROWERS AWARDED FIRST MEDALS OF 2023 SIMPLOT GAMES

Angela Schykerynec and Jake McEachern Post Gold Medal Distances

Pocatello, Idaho – After a two-year hiatus, the first medals of the 43rd Simplot Games were awarded to the Girls’ and Boys’ weight throwing champions. Angela Schykerynec of Golden State Throwing Club (Sacramento, CA) and Jake McEachern of Split City Sonics (Alberta, Canada) took home top honors.

Schykerynec, the top girls thrower in the country, commented that the atmosphere of the Games, cheering from the crowd, and adrenaline helped propel her to the top of the podium. Commenting on her 61’8.5” throw and first place finish, Schykerynec added, “I just wanted to go for it. I feel really happy about my performance.”

McEachern earned top honors with a throw of 67’2.5.” The Simplot Games marked McEachern’s first international competition.

More than 2,000 athletes from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia are participating in the 43rd Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
