Top athletes qualify for Saturday’s finals at 2015 Simplot Games
Elijah Armstrong and Jasmyne Graham look to break meet records
 
Pocatello, Idaho- Elijah Armstrong and Jasmyne Graham are among the top athletes who qualified for the 2015 Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. Many more athletes from around the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Australia look to break meet records and set national standards.
 
Top athletes who qualified for finals include:

  • Elijah Armstrong, a senior from Pocatello, Idaho, had the fastest time in the boys’ 3200 meters with the time 9:29.98. Levi Thomet, a senior from Kodiak, Alaska, qualified second with a time of 9:30.37.
  • Brandon Hasson, a senior from Los Angeles, qualified first for the boys’ 200 meters with a time of 22.20 seconds; he also anchors the 4×200- and 4×400-relay teams for New Image Training Group. Their 4×200 team qualified first with a time of 1:31.45.
  • Fort Collins Track Club, from Windsor, Colo., qualified first in the girls’ 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:41.69.
  • Jasmyne Graham, a senior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., qualified first in the girls’ 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55 seconds, the 4th best time in the U.S. this year.
  • Tabor Scholl, a senior, from Kremmling, Colo., qualified first in the girls’ 1600 meters with a time 5:04.44. She will have a competitive final tomorrow racing Lucy Biles, a senior from Herriman, Utah, and Sydney Wendt, a sophomore from Gillette, Wyo.
  • Amelia Mazza-Downie, a sophomore, from Maribyrnong, Australia, qualified first in the girls’ 3200 meters, with a time of 10:50.81. She will have to fight off Makena Morley, a senior from Bigfork, Mont., in the finals tomorrow.

 
All events on Saturday are finals, with championship heats beginning at 12:15 p.m. at Holt Arena. More than 2,000 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia to participate in the 37th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
