Pocatello, Idaho – After three days of competition, Utah athletes outperformed and outlasted their competitors in the finals of the 2024 Simplot Games.
Three Utah athletes made history, breaking meet records and setting the #1 times in the United States for their respective events. Those athletes include JoJo Jourdon (Salt Lake City; boys’ 1600 meters), Daniel Simmons (American Fork; boys’ 3200-meters), and Jane Herdengren (Orem; girls’ 3200 meters).
With Herdengren leading the group, Utah girls secured five out six top spots in the 3200-meter run. Avalon Mecham (American Fork), Mya Oyler (Riverton), Alayna Wardle (Harriman), and Sienna Barton (Ogden) rounded out the group.
Simmons led the Utah boys in the 3200-meter run, matching the girls by landing five out of the top six podium spots. Ben Jaster (American Fork), Kaden Evans (American Fork), Austin Westfall (Orem), and Corbin Randall (Riverton) all earned medals.
To round out the afternoon, Utah boys dominated all six medal spots in the 800-meter run. Those athletes included winner Noah Nielson (American Fork), Ryker Bement (American Fork), Luke Horner (Riverton), Colton Scharmann (Ogden), Dillon Elliott (Salt Lake City), and Brennon Koldewyn (Woods Cross).
Lily Alder of Orem won the girls’ 800-meter run.
