“It felt so great to win,” she said. “I didn’t do very well at Simplot Games last year in the 60, so it was great to redeem myself.” Davis went toe-to-toe with Celeste Mucci, a junior from Australia and won by just .10 seconds. “I knew I had my work cut out for me coming in,” she said. “I just focused on the finish line, gave it all I could and went for it.” Davis may have caught a break when there was a false start in the first attempt. “I wasn’t ready so I didn’t get a good jump off the blocks. If it wasn’t for the second gun there is no way I would have won that race.” Davis also set a Simplot Games meet record in the girls long jump with a 20’10.75”, and finished second in the girls triple jump with a 41’03.75”. More than 2,100 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 38th annual Simplot Games.
