“It felt so great to win,” she said. “I didn’t do very well at Simplot Games last year in the 60, so it was great to redeem myself.”

Davis went toe-to-toe with Celeste Mucci, a junior from Australia and won by just .10 seconds.

“I knew I had my work cut out for me coming in,” she said. “I just focused on the finish line, gave it all I could and went for it.”

Davis may have caught a break when there was a false start in the first attempt.

“I wasn’t ready so I didn’t get a good jump off the blocks. If it wasn’t for the second gun there is no way I would have won that race.”

Davis also set a Simplot Games meet record in the girls long jump with a 20’10.75”,  and finished second in the girls triple jump with a 41’03.75”.

More than 2,100 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 38th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
