Sydney Thorvaldson of Rawlin, Wyo., Sets Meet Record for Girls’ 3200 Meters

Pocatello, Idaho – Sydney Thorvaldson, a sophomore from Rawlin, Wyo., won the girls’ 3200 meters and set a new meet record with a time of 10:19.05 at the 2019 Simplot Games.

Due to bad weather and road conditions, Thorvaldsen missed her qualifying race on Thursday. She was able to arrive on Friday and raced her way into the finals.

“This is so unreal,” Thorvaldson said. “I was shooting for the meet record, but when I came around the last corner and saw my time, I was so excited.”

Thorvaldson now holds the No. 1 high school time for the girls’ 3200 meters this year.

“The crowd was really cool,” Thorvaldson said. “They really helped push me. The energy here was so good.”

More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 41st annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R.
