Star Valley Track from Wyoming win Boys 4×800-Meter Relay at 2017 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – The Star Valley Track team from Afton, Wyo., took first in the boy’s 4×800-meter relay in an exciting fashion at the 2017 Simplot Games.
Juniors Wyatt Peck, Wesley, Kallgren, Shane Henderson and sophomore Asefa Wetzel worked together to run 8:00:82 in the 4×800-meter relay. The team had a come-from-behind win over three-time Simplot Games champions Davis Track Club from Kaysville, Utah.
“I just decided to pass,” said Henderson, the anchor. “I was confident in my strength and knew I would be able to hold him off.”
All four athletes attend Star Valley High School in Afton and will be competing in their state meet in two weeks. They are satisfied with their time and hope to continue that level of competing.
“We just tell each other to do our thing and run our own race,” Henderson said, “Whatever our coach is telling us to do must be working.”
More than 2,200 athletes came from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
