Spokane Speed Academy of Spokane Wash. Won the Boys 4×400-Meter Relay at 2018 Simplot Games

Pocatello, Idaho—Spokane Speed Academy of Spokane Wash. won the boys’ 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:24.90 at the 2018 Simplot Games, a personal record.

The team is made up of Carson Brown as first leg, Tony Pizzillo as second leg, Isaiah Dunn as third leg, and Charles Johnson as anchor. All athletes are seniors.

“Before the race I was thinking about the heat that ran before us because they had some fast times,” said Pizzillo.

Each runner considered his role in the overall team performance before the race began.

“I just kept thinking that I had to get us out strong,” said Brown. “I was just trying to get us through. And we ended up with a new P.R.”

Some of the team had competed at Simplot Games before, but it was Brown’s first time at the Games.

“This was probably the most fun meet I’ve been to,” said Brown.

The team is working toward a new goal. They have hopes to compete at nationals at the end of the season.

More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
