Lexi Ellis, from University Place, Wash., Won the Girls’ Triple Jump at the 2018 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho—Lexi Ellis, a senior from University Place, Wash., won the girls’ triple jump with a mark of 42’07.75” at the 2018 Simplot Games.
“Before the competition started, I was trying to match or do better than some of the jumps I’ve done,” said Ellis. “I was hoping for 43 feet, which I’ve made a few times.”
Ellis didn’t break her personal record, but she maintains a positive outlook on her performance this weekend and has high hopes for the rest of the season.
“It’s all a work in progress,” said Ellis. “I have more meets this season and I’m excited for what’s to come.”
This year was Ellis’s fourth and final appearance at Simplot Games, which remains a highlight of her high school track and field career.
“Simplot Games has been incredible,” said Ellis. “It’s my favorite indoor meet because it has a great atmosphere and great competition. It’s a great place to jump with good runways.”
This fall, Ellis will attend the University of Oregon to continue her track and field career at the collegiate level.
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
