Idaho Athletes Qualify for Saturday Finals at 2015 Simplot Games


Pocatello, Idaho – Elijah Armstrong from Pocatello, along with Kimball Wightman and Bryce Kirby from Boise, led the field of Idaho boys who qualified for Saturday’s finals at Simplot Games. Idaho also presented a prominent field of female athletes as four girls qualified for the high jump and five qualified in the pole vault.


Top Athletes include:

  • Elijah Armstrong, senior from Pocatello, led the pack in the boys 3200 meters with a qualifying time of 9:29.98, one of the top 50 times in the nation this year.


  • Kimball Wightman, a senior from Rexburg, qualified in both the long jump and the 60-meters hurdles with a time of 8.61 seconds.


  • Bryce Kirby, a senior from Boise, qualified in the boys’ 200 meters as well as the 60-meter dash where he had the sixth best time.


  • Four girls qualified for the girls’ high jump with Abigail Brown (sophomore, Idaho Falls), Taylor Elliot (sophomore, Boise), Sierra Anderson (junior, Rigby), and Kolbi Sims (senior, Boise) all advancing.


  • Five girls qualified for the girls’ pole vault with Auby Barr (sophomore, Nampa), Emma Bellan (senior, Boise), Annea Black (freshman, Meridian), Courtney Diehl (senior, Meridian), and McKenna Dustin (junior, Boise) all making the cut.



More than 2,000 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia to participate in the 37th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
