Idaho Athletes Finish Strong at 2015 Simplot Games
Elijah Armstrong of Pocatello and YMCA Team Idaho of Boise claim victory
 
Pocatello, Idaho – Elijah Armstrong from Pocatello and YMCA Team Idaho from Boise led Idaho athletes in finishing strong at the 2015 Simplot Games, bringing home first place finishes in their respective events. Idaho had a successful year at Simplot Games, with many athletes making the podium while competing against athletes from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Mexico.
 
Top finishers from Idaho include:

  • Elijah Armstrong, senior from Pocatello, finished first in the 3200-meter with a time of 9:01.04, claiming his first win and narrowly missing the Simplot Games meet record of 9.00.62. His time is currently the second fastest in the country.
  • YMCA Team Idaho ‘A’ of Boise won the boys’ 1600 sprint medley with a time of 3:32.53.
  • Diamondback Track Club ‘A’ of Pocatello finished first in the All-Idaho boys’ 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:34.91,
    while YMCA Team Idaho ‘B’ of Boise finished second with a time of 1:35.25.
  • YMCA Team Idaho ‘C’ from Boise finished first in the All-Idaho girls’ 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:47.36 while YMCA Team Idaho ‘B’, also from Boise, finished second at 1:48.25.
  • Juniors Michael Slagowski and Garret Calhoun, both from Boise, finished strong in the boys’ 800 meters as Slagowski claimed second with a time of 1:53.98 and Calhoun took fourth with a time of 1:55.77.
  • Auby Barr, a sophomore from Nampa, finished second in the girls’ pole vault, clearing a height of 11’06”

Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R.
