Michael Slagowski from Boise led the Idaho contingent by winning the boys’ 1600 meters with a record time of 4:10.16, besting the old record by .06 of a second.
“I couldn’t be happier,” he said. “Simplot Games is my favorite indoor track meet, so it’s awesome to be here and beat the meet record.”

On the girls’ side, eighth grader Lexy Halladay, also of Boise, kept the 1600 as an Idaho event and wowed the crowd when she won the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:53.40.

“It is fun to compete against athletes who are older than me, but also really scary,” Halladay said.

Garrett Calhoun from Boise won the Boys’ 800 meters with a time of 1:52.39.
Calhoun fought off Logan McKay, a senior from Layton, Utah, until the last 400 meters when he started to pull ahead. Calhoun said his goal for the race was to stay on the inside of the track and set the pace that he was comfortable with.

“Logan challenged me and I knew I had to keep the inside of the track so that he didn’t pass me,” Calhoun said.

In the field, Taylen Langin from Boise won the girls’ pole vault with a jump of 12’.

“I am beyond happy with the win,” she said. “It was one of the happiest moments of my life.”
