Pocatello, Idaho – Hap Frketich, a senior from Newberg, Ore., won the boys weight throw with a distance of 64’6” at the 2016 Simplot Games. Frketich’s winning throw was also his personal record. Although it felt great, he wasn’t expecting to win that distance. “I felt really relaxed during my winning throw,” said Frketich. “I didn’t see it coming at all when I threw it.” This is Frketich’s first year at Simplot Games. As of now, he is narrowing down his college options. More than 2,100 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 38th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
