DeMone held third place the whole race until the last 100 meters where she kicked into first.
“I don’t like trying to be first the entire race,” said DeMone. “I would rather stay behind a little and then catch up when I need to.”
This is DeMone’s second year at Simplot Games. In the 2015 Games, she placed third in girls’ 800-meters.
More than 2,100 athletes have come from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 38th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
