Celeste Mucci, a senior from Melbourne, Australia, wins girls’ high jump, 60-meter dash and 4×200-meter relay team at 2017 Simplot Games Places second in 60-meter hurdles and fourth in long jump

Pocatello, Idaho –Celeste Mucci, a senior from Melbourne, Australia, won the girls’ high jump, 60-meter dash and was on the winning 4×200-meter relay at the 2017 Simplot Games. She also placed second in the 60-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump.
Mucci beat out the competition in the high jump with a height of 5’10”. Her time of 7.39 in the 60-meter dash beat Jasmine Reed, a senior from Agoura, Calif., by three-hundredths of a second. Reed’s time was the second fastest in the United States this year.
“I felt like I got a good start, but it was just one-to-one at the end and I didn’t know who won,” Mucci said of the 60-meter dash.
The Maribyrnong Sports Academy won the girls’ 4×200-meter relay with the time 1:42.34. The team consists of Meg Cairns, junior, who ran the first leg, Mareelou Boyle, sophomore, ran the second leg, Mucci, senior, ran the third leg and Jessie Andrew, junior, ran the anchor leg. Mucci also placed second in the girls’ 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.32, just one-tenth of a second behind winner Tara Davis, a senior from Agoura, Calif. She also placed fourth in the girls’ long jump with a distance of 19’8 3/4”.
More than 2,200 athletes came from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
