Pocatello, Idaho – Alyssa Workman, a senior from Lake Oswego, won the 2018 Simplot Games girls weight throw with a toss of 44’6.5”
This is Workman’s first year competing at Simplot Games and she was the first athlete of the Games to stand at the top of the podium.
“My winning throw just felt easy as it left my hands, and I just knew it was going to be good,” Workman said. “The weight does all of the work if your technique is right.”
Workman was joined on the podium by teammates Alyssa Walls, junior, and Ava David, sophomore. Workman, Walls, and David are all members of Super Thrower Track Club.
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
