Alysia Allen, from Reno, Wins Girls’ Pole Vault at the 2018 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho – Alysia Allen, a senior from Reno, won the girls’ pole vault at the 2018 Simplot Games after clearing 13’0.25”.
“I’ve always wanted to have a super power and vaulting gets me the closest to flying that I can,” Allen said. “It just feels good to jump high.”
In her last flight, Allen attempted to tie the meet record of 13’05” which was set in last years’ Simplot Games by her Raise the Bar Pole Vault Club teammate, Mikayla Linebarger, who has since graduated,
“I wasn’t able to clear it, but I was just happy to get over 13 feet again.” Allen said.
Allen said that the past two years of competing at the Simplot Games have been a place where she can compete in a relaxed manner and perform her best. She plans to continue her vaulting career at San Diego State after receiving a track and field scholarship.
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
