Trey Knight Takes First Place in Shot Put at Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho—Trey Knight, a sophomore from Ridgefield, Wash., won the boys’ shot put in the 2018 Simplot Games with a mark of 62’11”.
“I was pretty nervous,” said Knight. “I had a good throw this time, and it was a little better than I had been averaging this season.
Knight was one of two sophomores in the finals, and was the youngest competitor to place in the top six.
“My goal for next season is to be consistently over 65 feet,” said Knight.
Knight also took first in boys’ weight throw with a mark of 80’05.5, which was a Simplot Games sophomore-class record.
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the 40th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
