Utah Athletes to Look for in 2017 Simplot Games
Pocatello, Idaho- The 39th annual Simplot Games provides high school athletes the opportunity to compete against over 2,200 athletes from around the world, as well as rub shoulders with Olympians. This year, athletes from Utah look to shine and take home Simplot Games medals.
Make sure to look for these Utah athletes among the competitors:
-Justin Harmon, a senior from American Fork, was the 2016 BYU Track Invitational winner in the decathlon and has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Air Force Academy. He will compete in the 60-meter hurdles at this year’s Simplot Games.
-Dominic Bentil, a junior from Highland, was the 2016 Utah State Champion in the 200 meters and will be competing in the 400 meters this weekend.
-Travis Feeny, a senior from Ogden, was a 2016 Footlocker Finalist. He finished 7th in the 3200 meter run in the 2016 Simplot Games and will be returning this year to compete in the same event.
-Dylan Tidwell, a sophomore from South Jordan, is the second ranked underclassman in the 800 meters for the 2017 indoor season.
-Joe Benson, a senior from Orem, was the 2016 cross-country state champion and finished 7th in Nike Cross Nationals in 2016. Benson is a two-time All-American and participated in the USA World Mountain Running Championship in Bulgaria, finishing 11th in the world and 1st in America. He will be competing in the 1600 meters this year at Simplot Games.
More than 2,200 athletes will come from across the U.S., Canada, and Australia to participate in the 39th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
