Pocatello, Idaho- Maura O’Brien, senior; Emma Sanchez, sophomore; Kelley Robinson, senior; and Rebecca Hermann, senior; from Boulder, Co.,  representing The Ric Rojas Running team won the Girls’ 4×800 Meter Relay  at the 34th annual Simplot Games.

These girls dominated the 4×800 meter event. Herman, the first leg in the race, came out of the blocks smoking, giving her team a phenomenal lead. The middle anchors, O’ Brian and Kelley were able to hold that lead position throughout the race giving Sanchez, the last leg, an exceptional head start.

“We just wanted a spot on the podium,” said Sanchez “We weren’t even expecting to win.”

O’Brien says “Last year we missed the podium by just a few seconds, so it was awesome to win.”

More than 1,800 athletes came from across the U.S. and Canada to participate in the 34th annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
