- About Us
Eligibility: Any high school age athlete who is a full-time student in the 9th through 12th grade is eligible to participate in the Simplot Games. Athletes in 7th and 8th grades are not allowed to compete. Participants may enter as members of a high school track club or as unattached high school competitors depending upon their state activity association eligibility rules. Coaches or assistant coaches of a registered team are eligible to participate in the two coaches’ events, the 200m Dash and the 1600m Run.
Drug Testing: The Simplot Games are sanctioned by USA Track & Field and that organization’s rules governing track meets will apply. Athletes who participate in this competition may be subject to formal drug testing in accordance with USA Track & Field Regulation 10 and IAAF Rule 55. Athletes found positive for banned substances, or who refuse to be tested, will be disqualified from this event and will lose eligibility for future competitions.
Some over-the-counter medications contain banned substances. Information regarding drugs and drug testing may be obtained by calling the USOC Hot Line United States Anti-Doping Agency Drug Reference Line at 1-800-233-0393.
USA Track & Field Membership: For insurance considerations and other reasons, all entrants must have a current USATF card. One-year youth memberships are $19.95. Memberships are on a calendar basis, and expire on December 31. However, if you join between November 1 and December 31 of the current year, the membership will be valid for the following year as well. If you are from a state that sanctions indoor high school track and your school is sponsoring you as an athlete, you will not be required to purchase a USATF card.
Entries: Each team may enter as many athletes per event as they wish. However, to control numbers and maintain quality of the meet, an individual may not enter more than one running event, two field events, and two relays. If an athlete desires to compete in more than one open running event, they must meet the Second Event Standard for both events and apply for an admission waiver (see below.)
Entry Fee: Entry fees per individual are $5.00 per event plus a $15.00 base fee. A packet fee of $5.00 will be charged to each team or unattached individual at the time of registration. Where possible, individual runners are encouraged to form teams to save additional packet fees. Fee payment via Paypal is required in order to complete registration. No refunds will be made after February 1, 2012.
Scratches: All scratches must be made by the Friday morning coaches meeting at Simplot Games. If you are unable to attend the 8:00 a.m. meeting, you can call in your scratches. Any athlete not scratched after the Friday morning meeting will be considered declared for the event.
Substitutions: Teams with registered athletes who subsequently scratch from an event can substitute an additional athlete without a fee penalty if the substitution is made prior to the close of registration. All athletes must be registered on the same team and emergency substitution requests must be sent by e-mail to info@SimplotGames.com. After that deadline, substitutions will only be permitted with express approval of the Meet Director who will make the determination pending the availability of open lanes or times in each particular event.
Uniforms: Team members should wear identical uniforms for purposes of identification and uniformity, and must wear their team uniforms while participating. Wearing of Simplot Games T-shirts will not be permitted during competition.
Participant Number: Each athlete will be assigned a participant number and receive their number banner in the team packet at check-in. These numbers must be worn on the front of the athlete’s uniform by attaching with a provided safety pin in each corner. If a number has not been provided for an athlete, a new number will be assigned at the check-in table.
Athlete Declaration: Any athlete declared to compete must honestly participate in each round (trial, final) of each track event for which the athlete is declared or the athlete will be barred from further competition in the meet.
Relay Athletes in Open Events: For relay purposes, a coach may scratch a qualified open event athlete by contacting meet management within 30 minutes of the completion of the qualifying race. This allows meet management to contact the next fastest qualifying athlete and allow them to compete on Saturday. If the coach fails to contact meet management within the 30-minute time limit, the qualified athlete must compete in the open event or be scratched from further competition.
Second Open Event Rules: While each athlete may participate in any single track event, regardless of previous marks, athletes desiring to run in two open races can do so if they meet the following standards in both events.
Qualifying Standards for Two Events
( times must be fully automatic)
|60m Dash (100 meters)||7.95 / (12.15)||7.15 / (10.70)|
|60m Hurdles||9.35 / (14.60-100MH)||8.35 / (14.35-110MH)|
Due to lack of recovery time, athletes in running events longer than the 400m Dash are not eligible to enter a second running event.
**NOTE: To compete in two open events, the athlete must meet the qualifying standard for BOTH EVENTS!
Athletes must have met their qualifying times during the 12 months prior to the start of Simplot Games. Outdoor marks/times are accepted.
For athletes to qualify for two open events, coaches will have to verify all times. Official results verifying the athletes times must be sent with the Second Open Event Application Form. All submitted times will be checked against the high school rankings published by Track & Field News. No athlete will be allowed to compete in more than one open event unless times can be verified.
To obtain this waiver, a completed application form with attached documented meet results must be submitted either by e-mail to info@SimplotGames.com or by fax (208) 235-5676). The Simplot Games Eligibility Rules Committee reviews the requests and determines if athletes can compete in a second event. The Meet Director will notify the coaches of the eligibility determination results.
Field Event Waivers: If an athlete can produce written proof, from documented results, of a performance (this indoor season), equal to or better than those listed below, that athlete can waive his/her participation in the qualifying competition on Friday and proceed to the trials/finals on Saturday. If an athlete receives a waiver for the Friday preliminaries but elects to participate, the waiver is null and void. The participating athlete must then meet the qualifying mark to advance to Saturday’s finals.
Qualifying Marks for Field Event Waivers
|Long Jump||18′ 6″||22′ 09”|
|High Jump||5′ 7 “||6′ 8 “|
|Pole Vault||11′||14′ 6″|
To obtain this waiver, a completed application form including documented meet results must be submitted either by e-mail to info@SimplotGames.com or by fax (208) 235-5676). The Simplot Games Eligibility Rules Committee reviews the requests and determines if athletes can compete in a second event. The Meet Director will e-mail the coaches with the eligibility determination results.
4 x 800 Meter Invitational Relay: This is an invitational relay limited to 18 teams. If there are more than 18 teams entered, the fastest 18 teams will be invited to participate and verification of those times will be required. Teams must have met the following standards between February 2011 and February 2012 to enter:
( times must be fully automatic)
Boys must have run a 2:03 or faster . . . . . or have a team average of 8:12 or faster.
Girls must have run a 2:25 or faster . . . . . or have a team average of 9:40 or faster.
If teams are lapped during the race, they will be pulled out.
To enter this relay, enter your team at the online registration site along with other event entries, complete the 4 x 800 Meter Invitational Relay Entry Form (printable form at website tab), and submit the entry form either by e-mail to info@SimplotGames.com or by fax (208) 235-5676). The Simplot Games Eligibility Rules Committee reviews the requests and determines which teams are eligible to enter this relay. The Meet Director will notify the coaches of the eligibility determination results.
