Top 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions at the Simplot Games
10. Can I wear spikes?
Because of the wood track and large number of athletes, spiked shoes WILL NOT BE ALLOWED in the preliminary races on Thursday and Friday. Spiked shoes are allowed for Saturday's finals. Only 3/16" spikes will be allowed in running events. For Friday's preliminary races, athletes will need a flat, rubber-soled shoe. Removing the spikes from a spiked shoe and leaving just the plastic plate is not acceptable and very dangerous as the shoes slip on the wooden track. In the jumping events, spikes of ¼" are allowed for both preliminaries and finals. Athletes' footwear will be checked prior to each event.
9. Can we practice on the wood track?
Arrangements have been made for Simplot Games participants to practice at Holt Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 16th, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 17th, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., and on Friday morning from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. The ISU Track Team will be practicing at other times. As we our their guests, please be courteous and refrain from interfering with their practice schedules.
8. How can I get from my hotel to the Games or After Dark? How do I get from the Salt Lake or Idaho Falls airport to my hotel?
There is a complimentary shuttle provided by Salt Lake Express with a route that covers all the major hotels and Holt Arena every 30 minutes. The shuttle schedule can be found on our website as well as a copy in your packet. There are also Simplot Games van drivers for emergency use only. Their dispatch number is (208) 220-7881 but please try to adjust your schedule to ride the shuttle. Salt Lake Express offers special discounted one-way rates from the SLC airport ($30) and Idaho Falls airport ($5). More information can be found on our website under Transportation Information.
7. How do I add another athlete to my team? Why won't the computer let me add another athlete to my team?
When you received your username and password, you declared your status as either an individual or a team. The computer will not allow you to change this designation. If this is an error, the easiest thing may be to disregard this entry entirely and rt over by creating a new password and user id thereby changing your declaration. You can use the same e-mail address with the new user id.
6. Can individual athletes run on a relay team?
No. All athletes participating on a relay must be entered on the same team.
5. Why can't I enter two running events? What is the standard to enter the Simplot Games?
Because of the large number of participants, If everyone were allowed to enter as many events as desired, it would take a full week to complete the Simplot Games – compared to the current 2 ½ days. Exceptions are made if an athlete can meet qualifying standards in both events. Instructions and application forms can be found on our website. There are no entry standards and all athletes are allowed to enter one running event, two relays and two field events.
4. If I do not have a credit card, can I still enter the Simplot Games? Our school uses a voucher system. How do we register online?
Arrangements can be made for vouchers or cash payment. Call the Simplot Games offices at 208-235-5604 for further help.
3. Can I waive through the preliminaries in the field events? What if I decide to participate in the preliminaries as a "practice" for the finals on Saturday?
If an athlete can provide written proof from documented meet results of a performance within the last twelve months equal to or better than the qualifying standards, that athlete can waive his/her participation in the qualifying competition on Friday and proceed to the finals on Saturday. The qualifying standard for each event can be found on the website. However, if a waived athlete elects to participate in the preliminaries as a warm-up, the waiver is no longer valid and the athlete must meet the qualifying standard to participate in Saturday's finals.
