Pocatello, Idaho- Alex Gwynn, a senior from Cody, Wyoming, dominated the Simplot Games boys’ pole vault, winning the event by clearing a height of 15’6”. He was followed by teammate Quinn Rivera, a sophomore, who cleared a height of 14’6”

“I’m very happy with my height,” said Gwynn. “I could have done higher, but I have nothing to complain about.”

Gwynn said he was excited that he got to finish his career the right way at the Simplot Games. He said he had a “horrible” meet in 2008, and was unable to compete in 2009 due to an injury.

The two Wyoming boys were followed by Kirk Capdeville, a senior from Hinsdale, Montana, who cleared a height of 13’6”.

More than 1,800 athletes came from across the U.S. and Canada to participate in the 32nd annual Simplot Games. Simplot Games remains the nation’s premier high school indoor track and field event. Sponsored by the J.R. Simplot Company since 1979, the Simplot Games are held at Idaho State University’s Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.
